French President Nicolas Sarkozy has condemned Myanmar's military junta for refusing to allow in foreign aid workers following last week's devastating cyclone.
Sarkozy said in a speech Saturday that the international community wants to come to the aid of the people of Myanmar and help "relieve the misery" caused by Cyclone Nargis.
He lamented that "in the 21st century, the international community cannot freely help women and men" ravaged by natural disasters.
Myanmar state media has said the May 3 storm killed at least 23,000 people and left nearly 40,000 missing. The government has said it will accept international aid but not the foreign experts and staff to deliver it.
